What is a poetry slam?

A poetry slam is a competitive performance event, where poets present their original work in front of an audience and are judged by a group of people, normally picked at random out of the audience, for their performance.

The goal of a poetry slam is to engage the audience through powerful and emotive recitations of poems that often address personal experiences, social issues, emotions, and various other themes. A recited text normally lasts between five and seven minutes.

How I started

When I was young, I found myself drawn into a captivating world on YouTube, where people passionately recited their poems. Their talent left me in awe, igniting a spark of aspiration within me. I dreamt of someday stepping onto that very stage, microphone in hand, to share my own words with the world.

I began my journey by pouring thoughts into short stories. I then crafted verses of emotions, short poems full of emotions of a young teenager. With time I started gradually filling pages with the raw essence of my experiences. I found my voice intertwining with my emotions, forming a tapestry of expression that was uniquely mine.

And then came the moment I stepped onto stages scattered across NRW, each venue a canvas for my emotions to unfold. From those early YouTube days to the stages I now grace, my journey has been a metamorphosis. With each performance, I tell my story, hoping to spark a similar fire in the hearts of those who listen.

What now?

In the present moment, I find myself fully immersed in the world I once only admired from a distance. Every performance opportunity that arises, I grab with both hands, recognizing that this is not just a hobby, but a fundamental part of who I am.

A significant achievement along this path is the publication of my poetry book. It's a tangible representation of the emotions and experiences I've woven into my writing over the years.

In this journey, I've not only discovered the power of my own voice but also formed meaningful connections with others who share my passion. The creative community I've become a part of is one that constantly fuels my love for what I do.

As I move forward, I hold onto this fusion of love and creation that propels me. It's more than a pursuit; it's a way of life. I'm committed to continuing to embrace every opportunity, keep writing, performing, and cherishing the friendships that have grown out of this journey.
